Circulating: Meet Goals and Record Your Progress With Trakr

I recently reviewed an app called Trakr for iPhone.AppStorm. It helps you keep track of anything you can count, and well, I found the thing to be pretty darn handy. Books you’ve read, cakes you’ve baked, pages you’ve written, miles you’ve conquered, stitches you’ve knit, games you’ve won, dinosaur bones you’ve found … anything! Read moreRead more

goodreads

Today I joined goodreads, which is like an online bookshelf for all your books — those you’ve read, those you want to read, and those you’re currently reading. I discovered it a while back but put off taking the plunge, I’m not sure why. I wish I hadn’t waited so long, though. Now that I’ve signed up, I’m excited about all the organizational and recommendation features. But then again, I’m kind of weird like that. Read moreRead more

Being a lover of words, I really enjoyed reviewing an app called Phrase Wit for iPhone.AppStorm.

Circulating: Blush for Wine

I recently reviewed an app called Blush for Wine for iPhone.AppStorm that makes selecting the right bottle of wine for any occasion really fun, whether it’s to give as a gift, to enjoy with a special meal, or to serve at a party.

I have to mention, too — and this is the coolest part — the app includes a scanning capability, so you can also use your iPhone to read the label on any bottle of wine and learn more about it. How cool is that? Plus, it’s a great way to keep track of the wines you’ve tried and loved.

Circulating: Unlock Your Closet With Cloth

I recently reviewed an app called Cloth for iPhone.AppStorm that makes it possible for you to save and share photos of your outfits. It’s a great tool to help you remember which of your looks you like best.

For every photo you take, you can assign it to a category, such as Work, Vacation, Evening, Event or Everyday. This means all your work clothes can be found in one (virtual) place, all your vacation clothes in another, and so on. Just think how much easier this could make the task of packing for your next trip. Read moreRead more

Circulating: 50 Unique Journal and Diary Apps

Combining two of my favorite things — writing and my iPhone — I contributed an article to iPhone.AppStorm that spotlights 50 different journal and diary apps.

The roundup, published today, features apps for people who want to record thoughts and memories on the go — but these aren’t apps for just any kind of note-taking. I included only those that were created with the idea of a genuine digital journal in mind — and let me tell you, some of these developers got pretty darn creative. Read moreRead more

Circulating: 8 Handy Craigslist Apps Compared

Today I have a roundup of eight different but useful Craigslist apps published on iPhone.AppStorm.

Practically everyone I know has used, or at least heard of, Craigslist, and I can barely remember a time when the word wasn’t in the everyday lexicon. For those with iPhones, I’ve reviewed eight apps good for browsing and/or selling on Craigslist so you can take the site with you wherever you go. Read moreRead more

Circulating: 50 Great Learning Apps for Kids

I don’t have any kids, but I imagine that there are times when a parent wishes he or she could keep their child entertained with something not only captivating, but also educational and informative. Right? No? Maybe?

I published an article on iPhone.Appstorm that’s received good feedback so far: In it, I compiled 50 educational apps that are designed to be so engaging to toddlers and elementary school-aged children that they won’t even realize they’re learning while they’re using them! Read moreRead more

Circulating: Moodagent Plays Music to Match Your Mood

For those of you who dream of having your own personal DJ, or already like the Genius feature in iTunes, Moodagent is an alternative. The iPhone app, which I reviewed for iPhone.AppStorm, creates playlists from your phone’s music library by categorizing each song’s qualities according to emotion, mood, genre, sub-genre, style, tempo, beat, vocals, instruments and production features.

The resulting playlists created by Moodagent are tailored perfectly to match your mood, depending on how high or low you’d like the following Moodagent levels: sensualness, tenderness, joy, aggressiveness and tempo. Your playlists can be adjusted on the fly, saved and replayed and shared via social media. Read moreRead more

Circulating: Google Translate: Understand the World

I put my German skills to good use in my review of the Google Translate app for iPhone.AppStorm.

Knowing full well the many complexities involved in any language, I’m always dubious about software that designed to deliver accurate translations. However, I really liked Google Translate and found its results to be impressive.

The app can translate between 57 different languages, either by voice recognition as you speak (or as someone else speaks), or by text as you type. Also very cool — the app talks! Meaning, it can vocalize translations for you or whomever you’re trying to communicate with. Read moreRead more

Circulating: SkyGrid Delivers Only the News You Want

If you like the idea of an app pulling together only the news articles that you find interesting, and you own an iPhone, then you might like SkyGrid.

There’s an element of SkyGrid that’s similar to Twitter — you choose different channels, which represent different interests, to follow, and then the app continually pushes news for these categories to your phone. Convenient? You betcha.

I wrote a review of SkyGrid for iPhone.AppStorm, complete with notes and screen captures on how the whole thing works. I found the app to look good and be well organized. And spoiler alert: Your channels are laid out in a grid. Read moreRead more

But even if you don’t have an iPhone, you can still get a lot out of the Songkick website, which allows you to track the tour schedules of your favorite artists and bands, plus receive email updates when they announce shows in your area.

Think about it: You’ll always be the first to know when your favorite bands are coming to town! Read moreRead more
