Simply Wood Rings

I recently discovered Simply Wood Rings, which are created from salvaged wood and other environmentally friendly sources. The rings are made in a studio in Chicago according to a process which maintains the natural structure of the wood, drawing strength from its grain, rather than cutting against it as you see with many other wooden rings. Ten percent of the purchase price of each Limited Edition 100% Pure Argan Oil (the collection was released last month in time for Earth Day), is donated to the cause of the designing model’s choice: Women for Women Interational (Josie), Happy Hearts (Petra), and Healthy Child Healthy World (Angela). Vertical-Garden-Paris-Patrick-Blanc

Vertical Gardens by Patrick Blanc

I recently rediscovered the work of Patrick Blanc, a botanist renowned for his vertical gardens — many of which are located in prominent locations in world-famous cities.

His creations are incredible: gardens that climb the walls of museums, train stations, office buildings, residences and other public spaces. Feats of botanical engineering, they’re inspiring and scientifically interesting. Not to mention, they add a green factor to every one of their locations. Read moreRead more

Well this is pretty cool: El Chorro Lodge, the first restaurant in Arizona to earn the U.S. Green Building Council’s Leadership in Environmental and Energy Design (LEED) Gold Certification, has now gone electric.

That’s right — El Chorro, located in Paradise Valley, recently unveiled three brand-new Blink electric vehicle chargers, offering green drivers a convenient place to not only enjoy a fine meal, but to charge up their car while they do so! Read moreRead more

Circulating: Post-Holiday Detoxifying Facial Masks

So the holidays are over and now everyone is coming down from all the holiday (or even pre-holiday) excess. Well, while you’re hanging on to your new gym routine, cleaner daily diet and other life improvements, don’t forget about your skin!

Every year, during the holidays, I get less sleep, I eat more sugary confections, and I also wear more makeup, thanks to the seasonal influx of get-togethers. So by the time January is in full swing, my complexion needs a pick-me-up.

Over at myCosmeticBag, I laid out a few of my go-to facial mask products for starting the new year out right, with cleaner, healthier skin. Read moreRead more

DIY Light Bulb Terrariums

A terrarium by Etsy seller Sabzideas

I love the Etsy blog, especially the how-to posts, and I smiled to see today’s topic: light bulb terrariums.

I first heard of the idea on Lifehacker and have wanted to create one ever since, although I have yet to find the time to actually collect all the materials and put one together. But they’re just so darn cute I’m sure I’ll get around to it eventually.

Etsy re-posted its short and sweet video featuring Kimberly Sevilla of Rose Red & Lavender, a creative flower shop in Williamsburg, New York. Check out the video below so you can make one for yourself (and for me too, if you’re ever feeling generous). Read moreRead more

The Garden at Rico’s American Grill

Earlier this month I had the opportunity to meet chef Kenneth Arneson of Rico’s American Grill at the Pointe Hilton Squaw Peak Resort, and he is doing some exciting things at his restaurant.

At the invitation of Rico’s, members of the media, including food writers and others, enjoyed a meal served on the patio, right next to the restaurant’s garden, stocked with herbs, peppers, squash and much, much more.

Chef Arneson created the meal’s courses based on what was available locally, and most importantly, from the garden. The menu included … Read moreRead more

Handmade Eco-Friendly Ballet Flats

Keyhole Flat by HydraHeart, $50

Heels are fun, but on any given day I’d rather be wearing a pair of cute and comfortable flats. Always in search of the perfect pair, I recently discovered two Etsy vendors who design and sell handcrafted, vegan, eco-friendly ballet flats.

Canadian Etsy user The Generation says, “Motherhood and the fondest love to animals and nature has led me to the creation of these vegan shoes.” And California-based Etsy user Hydra Heart, aka Molly Puzo, whose flats were featured in Oprah’s magazine O, says her products  “are vegan and earth-friendly, and materials are organically derived from renewable sources. ”

Sound too good to be true? Just wait until you see how cute these shoes are … Read moreRead more
